Disposing of comminuted plastics by fixed bed gasification - for e.g. phenol-formaldehyde condensates

Disposal of plastics esp. phenolformaldehyde condensates with 40-60 wt.% cotton comminuted in a known way is claimed in patent DE4037490. In this patent of addn. the novelty is that known reactors are used in fixed bed gasification. USE/ADVANTAGE - Plastics such as those used as chassis building components in cars are disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. In an example, crude coal was comminuted to a grain size of 1/0 mm. The overflow was 0.4 wt.%. The coal was dried to a water-content of 12 wt.%. During evapn. this was reduced to 11 wt.%. 3 Wt.% phenolformaldehyde condensate plastic contg. 40-60 wt.% cotton was mixed with the dried coal and pressed to form briquettes. These were gasified using fixed bed gasifiers.
