The coolant pump (1) has an impeller (3) that is driven by a hollow shaft (5). A guide portion (9) is displaced axially between a wall portion (8) of the impeller and a covering portion (6) of the impeller by a control rod (10) such that the flow of cooling fluid is influenced by the guide portion for guiding the cooling fluid into the hollow shaft. The guide portion is externally enclosed by a shovel (4) of impeller and is decoupled with the control rod by the rotation of the impeller.
