A getter composition comprises at least one alkaline earth metal oxide, or a precursor thereof, and at least one transition metal oxide selected from the group consisting of copper oxide, and nickel oxide and cobalt oxide or a precursor of said transition metal oxides. The alkaline earth metal oxide may be selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide, dairy oxide and magnesium oxide. The precursor of calcium oxide may comprise calcium hydroxide, calcium carbonate or a mixture of calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate. The composition may be essentially free of palladium or palladium compounds. The composition may be in the form of particles wherein the average diameter of the primary particles is 10-1000 µm. A method of formation of the getter composition is also disclosed. |
