<p>A fabric is coated on at least one of its faces with a discontinuous coating comprising substantially parallel stripes of polymeric material, which coating weighs between 1 and 30 ounces per square yard and covers from 10 to 75% of the area of the face and is so distributed that there is no point on the uncoated areas which is more than 1/4 inch from the nearest coated area. The fabric may be woven, knitted or matted and may be hessian or a fabric woven from viscose rayon, polyacrylonitrile or cellulose triacetate yarns and the coating may be a natural or synthetic rubber e.g. neoprene or butadiene, cellulose acetate, a polyolefine e.g. polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene, a polyacrylate, a polyvinyl ester, PVC, polyvinylidene chloride, polyamides e.g. nylon, a polyester or a copolymer of any of these. The coating may be applied by conventional methods e.g. "printing", spraying or extrusion directly on to the fabric or by laminating techniques (see Division B5).</p> |
