A method, system or computer usable program product for a wireless unit of a first vehicle detecting and locating other nearby vehicles including emitting a first short range wireless signal with the first wireless unit, the first wireless signal including a first unique identifier and a first location of the first vehicle, detecting a second short range wireless signal of a second wireless unit of a second vehicle without the first wireless unit establishing a connection with the second wireless unit, the second wireless signal including a second unique identifier and a second location of the second vehicle, and computing a relative location of the second vehicle from the second wireless signal.

1. A method of a wireless unit of a first vehicle detecting and locating other nearby vehicles comprising:
emitting a first short range wireless signal with the first wireless unit, the first wireless signal including a first unique identifier and a first location of the first vehicle; detecting a second short range wireless signal of a second wireless unit of a second vehicle without the first wireless unit establishing a connection with the second wireless unit, the second wireless signal including a second unique identifier and a second location of the second vehicle; and computing a relative location of the second vehicle from the second wireless signal; wherein the first wireless signal includes a first temporary address of the first wireless unit, the first temporary address including the first unique identifier and the first location of the first vehicle, and the second wireless signal includes a second temporary address of the second wireless unit, the second temporary address including the second unique identifier and the second location of the second vehicle.
