An electro-optic device comprising: an electro-optic panel having an image display region through which incident light travels in an incident light direction; a first holding member that holds the electro-optic panel, the first holding member including a surface portion that at least partly covers and extends substantially parallel to a lateral face of the electro-optic panel; and a second holding member provided with a heat emitting portion on the side opposite to a surface of the second holding member to which the electro-optic panel is adhered, the heat emitting portion overlapping pixel electrodes in at least a part of the image display region in the incident light direction, wherein the first holding member and the second holding member include materials having different coefficients of thermal expansion,the first holding member and the second holding member are joined at a joint portion such that the first holding member and the second holding member are not in contact with each other at a place other than the joint portion, anda predetermined gap is provided between the first holding member and the second holding member in the incident light direction, the predetermined gap being set on a basis of the coefficients of thermal expansion of the first holding member and the second holding member, the predetermined gap extending laterally between the lateral face of the electro-optic panel and the joint portion, the predetermined gap having a thickness that is less than the thickness of the electro-optic panel in the incident light direction.
