PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an abnormal combustion avoidance device for an internal combustion engine that can avoid preignition and can reduce a decline in fuel economy.SOLUTION: An abnormal combustion avoidance device for an internal combustion engine includes: an ignition plug arranged in the internal combustion engine; a fuel injection valve for injecting fuel; a sensor arranged to detect knocking; and a crank angle sensor. Abnormal combustion is detected on the basis of output values from the sensor arranged to detect knocking and the crank angle sensor, and whether the detected abnormal combustion is knocking generated by normal ignition or preignition is determined. When occurrence of preignition is determined, the fuel injection amount is increased and ignition timing is made to advance.
