发明名称 Improvements in or relating to aerodynamic wing control
摘要 329,783. Crook, L. H. April 17, 1929. Balancing; planes, construction of.-The airflow over a main wing is controlled automatically by vanes pivoted to oscillate within certain limits at the leading or trailing edge or at both the leading and trailing edges of the wing, friction elements being provided to resist the free movement of the vanes in intermediate positions. Pivoted vanes also may be mounted in central openings in a main wing. Fig. 1 shows a crosssection of a wing 26 having a pilot plane 30 pivoted at 41 and a trailing plane 35 pivoted at 46. Both planes have rigidly mounted auxiliary surfaces 33, 42, 43 to stabilize their movements and the forward plane is limited in its upward movement by a stop 31. Movement of the rear plane is limited by a solid hook or by a tension spring. Other modifications are described in which the auxiliary surfaces act as limiting stops, and the trailing planes in certain instances have flexible and slit feather edges at the rear or at both the front and rear. Fig. 5 shows a symmetrical plane 75 with pilot and trailing planes 78, 82 pivoted on the axis of the main plane. In this case both pivoted planes have two auxiliary surfaces, those on the rear plane acting as stops, and the rear plane has feather edges 86, 87. The free movement of the planes is resisted by springs and friction discs on their spindles. Fig. 14 shows a plane 113, pivoted at 112, which normally closes a gap in a main plane 110, but is adapted to open a slot as the incidence increases. The plane 113 may have auxiliary surfaces fixed to it below, or above and below. Movement is limited by a stop 114, or a pin on the spindle may engage a circumferential slot in a tubular bearing.
