The method involves storing a state that is currently assigned to an object to be processed in an electronically retrievable manner, when the object is to be removed from a processing system. The state is determined depending upon processing stations (10) that are passed by the object. The object is uniquely identified by a local transponder i.e. radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder, which is attached to the object. The current state of the object is read as an extract from a state protocol that is assigned to the object. An independent claim is also included for a system for identifying an object to be processed at a processing station of a processing system.
