The present invention relates to a system and method for remotely controlling an excavator by using Zigbee communication. The system for remotely controlling the excavator according to the present invention comprises an excavator and a remote control terminal remotely controlling the excavator. The excavator includes an equipment operation unit performing its functions and an equipment wireless communication module interfacing the equipment operation unit and the remote control terminal by being connected to the remote control terminal by the Zigbee communication and to the equipment operation unit through first can communication. The remote control terminal includes a remote control operation unit remotely controlling the excavator and a remote wireless communication module interfacing the remote control operation unit and the excavator by being connected to the equipment wireless communication module of the excavator by the Zigbee communication and to the remote control operation unit through second can communication. The equipment wireless communication module and the remote wireless communication module can be selectively operated to any one of can connection mode receiving can messages through the first and second can communication or a can blocking mode in which the can messages are blocked through the first and second can communication. Accordingly, the communication between the excavator and the remote control terminal is stably performed and the remote control stability can be secured.
