The invention relates to a cylinder liner (2) for lining the cylindrical wall of a cylinder of an internal combustion engine, the liner (2) having an interior wall (3) intended to guide the translational movement of a piston and an exterior wall (4) intended to rest against the cylindrical wall of the cylinder, the interior (3) and exterior (4) walls of the cylinder liner being substantially co-cylindrical and between them delimiting an upper rim (5) of the liner which is intended to accept at least part of a cylinder head gasket, the exterior wall (4) of the cylinder liner (2) comprising a flared upper part (6), characterized in that the exterior wall (4) is covered, over all or part of its surface area but not over the flared upper part (6) which is bare, with a coating (8) able to encourage mechanical connection between the exterior wall and a metal component cast around said exterior wall.
