A handover support apparatus of a broadband wireless communications system and a method thereof for determining a candidate small-sized base station are provided to support handover of a small-sized base station in a macro base station for preventing unnecessary overhead. A mobile terminal receives a service by transmitting and receiving traffic from a serving macro base station and a base station controller(301). An MIH(Media Independent Handover) function transmits the message received to a MIH server(305). An MIH server transmits the message to an LBS server(307). A message including serving macro base station identifier information is transmitted to a management server(309). A subscriber information managing server searches small-sized base station mapped to a serving macro base station identifier. The message including the extracted information is transmitted to the MIH server(311). |
