Method and device for disinfecting containers

The device (10) has an elongated cylindrically tubular housing (20) arranged within a container i.e. wooden barrel, with an inner end (22). An ozone-generator is arranged in an internal chamber. Multiple openings (28) are formed in a wall of the housing in a region of the inner end. An outer end (24) of the housing is provided with a sealing element (26) sealingly fittable in the openings around the housing. The openings in the wall are formed as slots. A surface of the inner end of housing is partially coated with aluminum oxide, manganese oxide or copper oxide. An independent claim is also included for a method for disinfecting an interior of a closed container.
