[Class 92 (i)] For compensating angular variations arising from the movement of the ship on which a firearm is mounted, the firearm 1 is supported on a link parallelogram mechanism so that it can be swivelled about an axis perpendicular to the axis of elevation. As shown, the cradle 2 is mounted for elevating movements about an axis 11 in bearings supported by trunnions 5, which are journalled in bearings 4 in a a pair of arms 3. These two arms are connected together by links 6, 7, 8 which are centrally pivoted on a support 10, which is mounted for training movements in a fixed pedestal 9. By this arrangement the axis 11 can be maintained in a horizontal position, as shown in Fig. 2, by suitable movements of the firearm and its supporting links.</p> |
