A method for producing a glass plate has a dissolution process, a molding process using an overflow down-draw method, and slow cooling process of a glass ribbon. The slow cooling process of the glass ribbon performs slow cooling by pulling out the glass ribbon to a lower direction while pinching a neighborhood contiguous to a face width direction for width direction both end portions of the glass ribbon on multiple return roller pairs installed on a returning direction of the glass ribbon. The molding process rapidly cools the width direction both end portions of the glass ribbon rather than a width direction center portion after forming the glass ribbon. The slow cooling process applies tension force to a returning direction of the glass ribbon at a temperature area in which the temperature of the glass ribbon becomes more than a glass transition point and less than a glass softening point so that the plastic deformation is not generated in the glass ribbon.
