PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a document area from being determined erroneously not with reference to the end side image of a document but with reference to the end side image of a light transmission member, while including the end side of a light transmission member in the reading range.SOLUTION: The control unit 31 of a scanner 1 detects an edge line L, where multiple edge pixels D are arranged in such a direction that the angle difference of a platen glass 12 and the border line B with an underframe 11 is equal to or larger than a predetermined value, from the read image of a reading range H read by an image reading unit 6. When a determination is made that there is an end of the edge line L on the border line, the end point V of the edge line L is determined as a point on one side of a document region. When a determination is made that there is no end point V of the edge line L on the border line B, the end point V of the edge line closest to the border line B is determined as a point on one side of a document region. |
