Organic electroluminescent element (10) comprises a substrate (2), a pair of electrodes comprising an anode (3) and a cathode (9), which are arranged on the substrate, and at least one organic layer comprising a light-emitting layer (6), which comprises substituted 4,5-dihydro-pyrrolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole derivatives (I), and is arranged between the electrodes. Organic electroluminescent element (10) comprises a substrate (2), a pair of electrodes comprising an anode (3) and a cathode (9), which are arranged on the substrate, and at least one organic layer comprising a light-emitting layer (6), which comprises substituted 4,5-dihydro-pyrrolo[3,2,1-jk]carbazole derivatives of formula (I), and is arranged between the electrodes. R1, R2, R19 : H, phenyl, monovalent oligoaryl with 2-10 rings or monovalent fused polycyclic and aromatic hydrocarbyl with 2-6 rings; R11-R18 : H or other substituent; and A1-A4 : N or C. Provided that: at least one of R1, R2 and R19 is a monovalent oligoaryl with 2-10 rings or monovalent fused polycyclic and aromatic hydrocarbyl with 2-6 rings, and the phenyl, monovalent oligoaryl and the monovalent fused polycyclic and aromatic hydrocarbyl do not exhibit amino group as a substituent; and when A1-A4 is nitrogen, then R1 and R11-R13, which are bonded to the nitrogen are not present.
