An ultrasonic wave generator comprises an ultrasonic wave converter and an electric pulse generating device. The ultrasonic wave converter comprises: a piezoelectric element which oscillates on receiving an electric pulse from the electric pulse generating device; and a memory for storing characteristics data of the ultrasonic wave converter. The electric pulse generating device comprises: a variable pulse generator for generating an electric pulse of which it is possible to vary least one of the frequency, voltage and current; a data receiver for receiving the characteristics data of the ultrasonic wave converter from the memory; and a controller for controlling the variable pulse generator such that the variable pulse generator generates and outputs an electric pulse of which it is possible to vary at least one of the frequency, voltage and current on the basis of the characteristics data received by the data receiver.
