Described is the design of a flat solar collector, which uses metallic collector tubes of elliptic geometry with a coating of high optic absorbance (emissivity), best known as soot, for increasing the thermal efficiency thereof, this being compared to the same collector but with circular tubes and coating of commercial paint in mate black color. The results of the increase in the thermal efficiency due to the increase in the absorption area are shown, as well as the improvement in the optic properties resulting from the soot color coating used in the heaters.
