PURPOSE: A method for encoding and decoding an image using a large-sized conversion unit and a device thereof are provided to efficiently decode an image by setting a conversion unit with a larger size than a prediction unit, and performing the conversion of discrete cosine. CONSTITUTION: An entropy decoding unit(1310) decodes frequency component coefficients for a predetermined conversion unit. A dequantization unit(1320) dequantizes the frequency component coefficients decoded in the entropy decoding unit. A reverse frequency converting unit(1330) inversely converts the dequantized frequency component coefficients into pixel domains.
