The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for transmitting an ACK/NACK signal in a multiple element carrier wave system. The present invention discloses a terminal including: a terminal receiving unit which receives an up/down setup message including information on first up/down setup applied to a main serving cell and information on second up/down setup applied to a sub-serving cell from a base station, and receives a transmission block of a downlink sub-frame defined in the information on the first up/down setup from the base station through the sub-serving cell; a HARQ processing unit which generates an ACK/NACK signal for the transmission block and determines an uplink sub-frame defined in the information on the first up/down setup as transmission timing of the ACK/NACK signal; and a terminal transmission unit which transmits the ACK/NACK signal to the base station through the main serving cell.
