The device comprises a detection section, which is adapted to detect a digital signal. A unit detects the change of another digital signal (1) between signal levels (30), which is above or below an upper and a lower threshold value by a current signal level. The upper and lower threshold value is predetermined by a reference value (15) and a hysteresis value. A control portion sets the reference value as a time-dependent reference value curve. The determination of the signal level takes place in a time interval between two signal detections of a digital oscilloscope. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for determining the signal level of a digital signal; and (2) a computer program with program codes.
