The device has an allocation unit (14) allocating one of frequency units (10) to one of heating zones (12a, 12b) formed by heating units (11) based on a variable criterion e.g. heating time, temperature, cooking condition and power level, of the heating zones. The frequency units supply high frequency alternating current to the heating units. The allocation of the frequency units to the heating zones is defined by a switching position of a switching unit (26). A switching element (28) i.e. MOSFET, is attached to each heating unit for interrupting power supply of the individual heating units. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a heating device.
