The annular retainer (1) has outwardly and/or inwardly projecting resilient retaining elements (4) to hold an anchor rod (5) in a bore hole. The retaining elements are in the form of barbs. The size of the retainer is short along axial direction. The retainer is opened/closed by a closure (6) provided at the circumference. The passage area of that retainer is as large as the blocking surface of the retaining element. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for fastening anchor rod in bore hole; (2) method for fixing mortar cartridge in bore hole; and (3) arrangement of anchor rod in bore hole.
