The seal (1) has a housing (2) fixed at a bearing housing of a water pump over the seal, where the housing is made of plastic. A sealing ring (7) and/or a counter-ring (8) is made of ceramic, silicon carbide or graphite. A spring (9) biases the sealing ring against the counter-ring, where the spring is formed as a corrugated spring or as a plate spring. The counter-ring is connected to a retainer (6) in a torque-proof manner. A rubber bellow (10) is held radially inwardly in the housing by a nose (12). An independent claim is also included for a water pump.
