PURPOSE: A solar cell and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to lower a recombination rate by preventing a minority carrier inside a substrate from being moved due to the deformity of a side or a surface of the substrate. CONSTITUTION: A first conductive crystalline silicon substrate(501) is prepared. A second conductive semiconductor layer(502) is formed on an upper portion of a substrate. A minority carrier barrier area(504) is formed along a circumference of the surface of the substrate toward the inside of the substrate. The impurity concentration of the minority carrier barrier is larger than that of the substrate. A thickness of the minority carrier barrier area is larger than that of the second conductive semiconductor layer.
