A method and system for energy saving of base station are disclosed in the present invention. The method includes the following steps: control center judges whether the base station network is busy; when the base station network is idle, switch device makes the base station in energy saving state by adjusting the power output of the cells of the base station; when the base station network is busy, the base station is switched from energy saving state to normal state, the power output of the cells of the base station is resumed. The present invention adjusts the signal overcast of the cells of the base station neatly, switches between the normal state and the energy saving state based on the time or the traffic, thus realizing the purpose of saving resource and reducing energy consumption of the base station, satisfying the request of "green communication", at the same time, the service disposal of the cells is not affected.
