The invention relates to a process for the production of a friction material based on a sheet-like carbon fibre woven fabric for wet-friction elements, such as clutch linings or synchronizing ring linings, comprising impregnation of the carbon fibre woven fabric with a binder, in particular with a resin, to form a fibre material impregnated with binder (prepreg). The invention provides a procedure in which the prepreg (1) is cured for a curing period under a curing temperature which is elevated with respect to the ambient temperature and is pressed mechanically on its surfaces by means of a pressing mould (2) before the start and/or at I~ast during part of the curing period.
