The element (10) has male and female connection units (12, 14) for receiving a hinge pin and for region-wise enclosing the hinge pin. A structure-reinforcing sheet metal insert (13) is made of plastic, and extends over whole length of the element, and the connection units have retainers for the hinge pin, where the retainers lie with respect to each other in a mounting position. The connection units are formed at opposite longitudinal ends of the structure-reinforcing insert. The connection units are displaceably arranged with each other in a transverse direction of the insert. The connection units are designed as flaps. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a sectional door comprising a hinge element (2) a method for manufacturing a hinge element.
