PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for avoiding a collision of an elevator engaging member when a car is running with a car door open in emergency operation such as fire fighting operation. SOLUTION: A car door opening state specifying device specifies an opening state of a car door. An engaging member collision possibility determining device determines whether or not a car side engaging member contacts or collides with a member arranged in a landing hall and projecting to the hoistway side when the car travels based on the opening state of the car door by this car door opening state specifying device. A door position control device controls a car door motor when determining that a car engaging member contacts or collides with the member arranged in the landing hall and projecting to the hoistway side when the car travels, and moves the car door to a position known in advance for not colliding with the car engaging member.
