<p>Provided are a process for producing ESD protection devices which facilitates the adjustment and the stabilization of ESD characteristics, and an ESD protection device. The production process involves: forming sections that become first and second connection conductors (14, 16) and a section that becomes a mixed section (20) on sheets that become insulating layers (101, 102); and laminating and heating the sheets. The section that becomes the mixed section (20) is made using a mixed-section forming material prepared by mixing: a void-forming material; and a solid component containing at least one of (i) a metal and a semiconductor, (ii) a metal and a ceramic, (iii) a metal, a semiconductor, and a ceramic, (iv) a semiconductor and a ceramic, (v) a semiconductor, (vi) an inorganic-material-coated metal, (vii) an inorganic-material-coated metal and a semiconductor, (viii) an inorganic-material-coated metal and a ceramic, and (ix) an inorganic-material-coated metal, a semiconductor, and a ceramic. The void-forming material disappears at the time of heating, and thus the mixed section (20) is formed having voids dispersed in the solid component.</p> |
