PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device achieving proper focus control. SOLUTION: In an optical disk device, an objective lens is moved to a thickness direction of an optical disk by controlling an actuator, time interval that a recording layer is detected is measured during movement of the objective lens, first time interval from first detection of the recording layer to second detection of the recording layer is compared with second time interval from second detection of the recording layer to detection of third detection of the recording layer, and a focal position of the objective lens is determined based on the comparison result.
