A tilt apparatus (1) and method for operating it is disclosed. The tilt apparatus (1) of the invention is able to automatically level a cab of vehicle whilst the vehicle is in transit. The tilt apparatus (1) comprises a support frame (2) attached to a chassis of the vehicle. A mounting (4) is attached to the cab and connected with the support frame (2), and configured so that the horizontal plane of the mounting (2) can tilt about any direction of the chassis. There is at least one actuator (8, 9, 10, 11) that operates to tilt the mounting (4). A CPU (15) that is installed on the cab controls the actuator (8, 9, 10, 11) on the basis of continual slope information received from the inclination sensors (13 and 14) and the relative tilted angle between the horizontal plane of the mounting (4) and the support frame (2).
