PURPOSE:To uniformly and stably obtain high color reproducibility, light resistance and whiteness even by continuous processing by incorporating a specified magenta coupler into a silver halide emulsion layer and specifying the total amt. of gelatin in photographic constituent layers and the degree of swelling at the end of color development. CONSTITUTION:A magenta coupler represented by formula I is incorporated into at least one of silver halide emulsion layers. The total amt. of gelatin in the emulsion layer contg. the magenta coupler and photographic constituent layers positioned farther from a reflecting support than the emulsion layer is regulated to >=5.0g/m<2> and the degree of swelling of a silver halide photographic sensitive material having such layers at the end of color development is regulated to 220-350%. In the formula I, Z is a group of nonmetallic atoms required to form a hetero ring contg. nitrogen, X is hydrogen atom or a substituent group releasable by a reaction with the oxidized product of a color developing agent and R is hydrogen atom or a substituent group. High color reproducibility, light resistance and whiteness are uniformly and stably obtd. even when a color developing soln. enters a bleach-fix bath during continuous processing.
