A copolymer of vinyl acetate and monooctadecyl maleate comprising 1.5 mols. vinyl acetate per mol. partial maleic ester is prepared by refluxing a mixture of the monomers in benzene in the presence of benzoyl peroxide. The copolymers are used as liners for pressure-sensitive adhesive surfaces and may be applied in aqueous dispersion or in solvents such as benzene, toluene, ethyl acetate and toluene/alcohol. Optional additions are starch, casein, polyvinyl acetate and lauric acid-modified glycol phthalate resin. |
