<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light receiving/emitting device, which can have a light emitting unit and light receiving units integrated on the same substrate, and which can individually detect the quantities of light. <P>SOLUTION: The light receiving/emitting device includes the light emitting unit 100 and light receiving units 200a and 200b provided on the same substrate, wherein the light emitting unit includes an active layer sandwiched between a first clad layer and a second clad layer, a first electrode electrically connected to the first clad layer, and a second electrode electrically connected to the second clad layer, and the light receiving units each have a light absorbing layer. At least a part of the active layer form a gain region 140 in a current path between the first electrode and second electrode, and the gain region is provided from a first side face 105 of the active layer to a second side face 107 parallel with the first side face in a direction oblique to a perpendicular to the first side face. Light generated in the gain region is divided into light emitted to the outside and reflected light on at least one of an end face 151 on the side of the first side face of the gain region and an end face 152 on the side of the second side face, so that the reflected light is received by the light receiving units. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
