<p>Provided are a device and a method for bending a glass sheet. A glass sheet, which has excellent optical quality and is capable of being molded into a shape that is bent sharply with a large curvature, is bent orthogonally using a molding roller that has been curved. The device comprises a molding roller (20), which forms at least a portion of a roller conveyor (32) for conveying a heated glass sheet (G) and is capable of curving in the direction (Y) orthogonal to the plane of conveyance in order to bend the glass sheet (G) in the direction (Y) orthogonal to the direction of conveyance (X), and a curve forming mechanism (42a) for causing the molding roller (20) to curve at the desired curvature in the orthogonal direction (Y). The curve forming mechanism (42a) has back-up rollers (56) and (58), which are formed from flexible shafts that flexibly extend in a lengthwise direction, and which support the molding roller (20) over the whole lengthwise direction, and these back-up rollers (56) and (58) are caused to curve in order to cause the molding roller (20) to curve at the desired curvature in the orthogonal direction (Y).</p> |
