To basically eliminate the error in roundness and to prevent the effect of spiral waves a scalping head is presented with radially located scalping knives, where at least three such knives are anticipated. By such a concept of the scalping head, the requirement of selfcentering of the set of scalping knives as well as circular geometry of the shell under unchanged depth of the chip can be met.
