PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lock status display system and a lock status display method which eliminate the influence of a magnetic field on a display status, is excellent in portability and record retentivity and low in cost, and can be used for confirming a lock status, and a key suitable for the system and method. SOLUTION: The key is provided with a memory display medium where a conductive film of a substrate and a transparent conductive film of a transparent substrate face each other and an electrophoresis microcapsule containing particles moved by electric field application is disposed between the films. The lock status display system includes a terminal of a display medium driving unit installed in a keyhole or the like, a display medium installed in a key grip to enable observing display from outside, and a terminal extending from the conductive film and installed at the inlet of the keyhole.
