The present invention relates to a system and method for playing a lottery whereby lottery players are given an additional player selectable lottery option of purchasing a lottery ticket that allows the player to forego their chance of winning smaller subsidiary prizes in the lottery and compete solely for the main jackpot prize(s) in the lottery. In exchange, players selecting the jackpot prize option are presented with a reward for doing so, such as receiving an additional set of lottery numbers to use in the lottery.
