The invention concerns a cooking device for prepared food comprising a heating cavern (82) with a closable opening (7) for filling and emptying the heating cavern (82), drive means (27,28,29) for rotating the heating cavern (82) around an non-vertical axis, air circulation means (46,47,53) for circulating heated air through the heating cavern (82), an infrared radiator (38) for sending infrared radiation into the heating cavern (82) and control means (8,110) for letting the cooking device follow a program to cook the food in the heating cavern (82). In accordance with the invention, the cooking device has means for stopping or reducing infrared radiation into the heating cavern (82) while the heated air circulation continues. The invention also concerns a device for automatically cooking prepared food with infrared radiation and a method whereby the infrared radiation is stopped while the circulation of heated air and preferably the rolling of food continues.
