The method comprises the determination of set-point values of physical parameters linked to the intake of gaseous oxidizer into the combustion chamber, and a set-point value ?ref inf of the crankshaft angle at which a fuel must be injected into the combustion chamber. While the engine control system drives actuators so that the values of the physical parameters are equal to the set-point values, the set-point value ?ref inf is corrected before the physical parameters reach their set-point values, by taking account of the differences between the real values of the physical parameters and the set-point values of these parameters. Finally, the engine control system drives the injection of fuel into the combustion chamber when the crankshaft angle is equal to this corrected set-point value ?ref inf in order to retain optimum combustion. Applicable to combustion control in diesel engines. |
