PURPOSE:To obtain a reproduced image of good contrast and quality, by providing a charge surface control electrode between a photodiode and a discharge gate electrode and another charge surface control electrode between the photodiode and a transfer gate electrode. CONSTITUTION:A pair of charge surface control insulated gate electrodes 14a, 14b different from a discharge gate electrode 7 are provided at both the sides of each photodiode 1. A DC voltage Vs of 4V or the like is applied from a power source 34 to the electrode 14a, 14b. The voltage Vs is set at such a level that the potential surfaces 41a, 41b of wells just under the electrode 14a, 14b are kept higher than those of a discharge diode 6 and reading sections B1, B2. A pulse voltage is applied from a power source 39 to the discharge gate electrode 7. The pulse voltage is set so that the lower level of a charge surface 9 is between the bottom 41b of a well 43b and a charge surface 10 in a well 11. The potential surfaces 41a, 41b of the wells 43a, 43b are set higher than the charge surface 40 just under a transfer electrode 5 and are set lower than the bottom 41a of the well 43a. |
