[Also in Division B6] A continuous air stream, blowing through a porous plate 1, Fig. 1, provides an air cushion for a bag element placed on the plate, so that, while in this position, the bag may be centred and aligned before being fed to the apparatus described in the parent Specification for completion. In the embodiment, the plate 1 is inclined, the angle of inclination being adjusted by turnbuckles 2. A fixed roller 5 co-operates intermittently with movable rollers 7 to feed bagelements on to the plate 1, the oscillation of the rollers being controlled by a piston 8 synchronized with the main apparatus. The bag element slides down the plate 1 on the air cushion and comes to rest in an aligned position with one of its longitudinal edges against stop members 22. Plates 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, see also Fig. 3 (not shown), are then moved towards each other, their motion being controlled by a cam (10), such that the plates are kept at equal distances from the centre. The minimum distance between the plates 9, 9<SP>1</SP> is arranged to be slightly smaller than the length of the bag element, so that during the inward movement of the plates, the bag element is moved into a central position and slightly compressed. During the return of the plates to their inactive position the bag element spreads out and assumes a centred position. If required the cam (10) may be so shaped as to cause the centring movement of the plates to be repeated one or more times. At the end of the centring movement, a piston 24 causes the stop members 22 to be lifted so that the centred and aligned bag element can pass to the next work station. |
