摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrode active material for an electric double layer capacitor and the electric double layer capacitor, wherein it is possible to obtain the electric double layer capacitor in which an electrostatic capacity per electrode unit volume is high. SOLUTION: When coke resulting from one or two more materials selected from coal-based heavy oil, petroleum-based heavy oil and tar oil obtained by heating a resin is extracted by an organic solvent, its extracted remainder is used as an electrode active material. The organic solvent is a solvent having a coke solvent strength equal to or more than toluene, preferably. The electric double layer capacitor is obtained by the above-described manufacturing method, and the electrode active material in which an atomic ratio (H/C) of hydrogen to carbon is in a range of 0.35 to 0.46 is used.
