PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transcord data from the MPEG2 standard to an MPEG4 type standard that includes a MBAFF mode. SOLUTION: A method is such that, if the data relating to a first macroblock indicates that it is coded in frame prediction and field DCT mode, the method includes the of determining second macroblocks 3 and 4 in an image which, with first blocks 3 and 4, form supermacroblocks, with each of the macroblocks having associated MPEG2 inter-frame motion vectors V0 and V1; structuring of the macroblocks 3 and 4 in field modes 5 and 6 and calculation of partitions 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, and 23 of the supermacroblock, in accordance with the MPEG2 motion vectors V0 and V1; and calculating a motion vector for each of the partitions, in accordance with the MPEG motion vectors V0 and V1.
