PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel improved in strength with respect to a load applied to the lens barrel from outside such as impact by neither a strength deterioration caused by thinning down the rotatable cylinder nor bulkiness, and to provide an image pickup apparatus. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises: one or more rotatable cylinders 8; and a straight forward guide cylinder 9 to be rotated relatively to the rotatable cylinder and moved straight forward in the optical axis direction together with the rotatable cylinder. The straight forward guide cylinder comprises: one or more key part 9b having a surface orthogonal to the optical axis on its outer surface, rotatable relatively to the rotatable cylinder so as to be moved in the optical axis direction integrally; and a key groove 8a bored in the inner surface of the rotatable cylinder so as to be engaged with the key part. The straight forward guide cylinder comprises a rib part 9c protruded in the optical axis direction for clamping the rotatable cylinder on the surface orthogonal to the optical axis in a vicinity of the key part.
