摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adsorbent efficiently and economically removing sulfur compounds, polycyclic aromatic compounds and the like in a hydrocarbon oil by adsorption and its manufacturing method, to provide a method for removing trace components, especially sulfur compounds, in the hydrocarbon oil by using the adsorbent and to provide a fuel cell system preparing the adsorbent. <P>SOLUTION: Carbonization-treated matter or activation-treated matter having a specific surface area of 200 m<SP>2</SP>/g or more and having an average pore diameter of 20 &angst; or more is obtained by that plant biomass is carbonization-treated at 300-900&deg;C under reduced pressure or further activation-treated after carbonization-treating at 200-900&deg;C under reduced pressure and/or an inert atmosphere and then the adsorbent removing the trace compounds in the hydrocarbon oil is manufactured from the carbonization-treated matter or the activation-treated matter.
