A personal authentication device and a device for extracting a vein pattern for personal authentication are provided to authenticate a user by imaging a light which is penetrated through fingers in a contactless mode and extracting the vein pattern from the image of the fingers. An imaging part(4) images the light output from a light source(2) and passing the finger. A processor(9) performs the personal authentication by extracting the vein pattern from the image received from the imaging part and using the vein pattern. The processor extracts an outline of the finger from the image, finds a straight line approximate to the outline, and corrects the image to make the approximate straight line parallel to a corner of the image. The processor calculates the approximate straight line by a least square method using a plurality of pixels forming the outline. The processor performs rotational correction by using an intersection of the approximate straight line and the corner of the image as a rotation center.
