<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide an optimum exposure condition out of a wider setting range, on condition that a camera shake correction mechanism is provided. <P>SOLUTION: An LV value showing brightness of an object is detected in a step S2. An exposure condition corresponding to the detected LV value is assumed in a step S3. A camera shake limit speed Ts corresponding to a focal distance f is obtained in a step S5. A reference shutter speed Te is compared with the camera shake limit shutter speed Ts in a step S6. When the Te is higher than the Ts, a control to inhibit the operation of a camera shake correction part is performed in a step S7. When the Te is equal to or lower than Ts, a camera shake limit shutter speed Ts' obtained by shifting the Ts to a lower side by the amount corresponding to a camera shake correction quantity Us is set to the low-speed end of the shutter speed of a program line.
